Music - Tool 10,000 Days

I've been listening to Tool pretty much non-stop since I bought this new CD.
I am a true "rocker chick", I say that because I get excited listening to the bass lines and the heavy guitar riffs, not to mention the amazing Maynard James Keenan. I've been in love with this guy ever since he stared at me while singing an entire song at Bogarts in Long Beach back in the 90's. He does that [stare intensely at a random person to freak them out] at every show, from what I can remember. I remember being a little scared but excited at the same time.

I have such wonderful memories of Bogarts. So many great bands have come through that wonderful little place that I used to call my second home. Though it's long gone, at least there is still "music" in the area..... a Tower-WOW store.
I remember getting really high with my friend Kristi in the parking lot before seeing [or not seeing] Nirvana on (6/23/89). I didn't/don't smoke pot and thought it would be a fun thing to do....... obviously that wasn't the case. It's not cool to forget everything about such an important night as seeing Nirvana in a club that holds about 300 people! remember kids.... DON'T DO DRUGS. It's a good thing I caught them at Jabberjaw, Roxy (8/15/91), Palladium (6/14/91) and Raji's (Feb 1990) and a few others before the end.

switching gears

1.
Check out this month's design and story! It's this cool site where you can get t-shirt's in the mail every 6 weeks... if you're into t-shirts .... oh just check it out, I can't explain or I'm to lazy to explain it right now. IT'S TOO HOT TO EXPLAIN.

2.
I was on E-Harmony yesterday, yeah it's one of THOSE sites where you can "find your mate" and after going through this long-ass series of questions I choose men within 60 miles of my house. The computer does it's little thing for about 30 seconds finding a match and mine comes up with ZERO! LOL I was like WTF?! I go on it later that night and find that I have 6 matches... I check them out, no photos yet - just a series of answered questions and little tid bits about them. One from Long Beach, another in Irvine, Simi Valley and I can't remember the rest. As I clicked on one to start the communication process [via E-Harmony questions and answers they provide for you] it says it would cost $$. That made me feel like a whore.
I'm not paying to "find a mate". It said free trial blah blah blah.... which goes to show you that nothing is for free. nothing, I say. I can't really see myself meeting someone from an internet dating site anyway, although I did meet someone a long time ago and we ended up going out for a few months, I think it was Friendster. E-Harmony seems pretty cool with the intense process and all .... seems like it gets a lot of the crap out of the way upfront before you even meet unlike going out with someone you meet in a club for like 3 months and ending up finding out about a lot of crap that you don't want to deal with. It's a process, a very tedious process but it seems like it works. I'm just not paying for it. A girl from my work just got married this past weekend from someone she just met on E-Harmony only in February. Crazy huh!?

I don't really have a big check off list for a mate although I did find that E-Harmony did have a lot of good questions to help my judgement.

My main things are:
1. no smoking no drinking except once in awhile
2. a personality that enables them to switch gears rather easily (fun, exciting, loving, calm, quiet etc...)
3. adventurous mind
4. doesn't scrape silverware on plate while eating
Looks are a plus but not necessary, I've dated a few "ugly" guys before (LOL) they didn't last to long though. I'm kidding, stop it! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder or is only skin deep or something like that right?.... serious.
There is always one quality that overcomes the looks.

My problem is finding someone within a certain age range. I tend to go for the early 20's because guys my age usually are either married, divorced, has kids or really looks his age (if you know what I mean). I mean, would it kill you to hit the gym a few times a week instead of being a couch potato? That's why we have Tivo, man! I'm not trying to be all gym-psycho or anything just because I've been getting more serious about it since January. I guess when someone is really into something, they tend to share it and even preach it a little, weather it be drugs or the gym. Although I don't really see people that do heroin telling people that heroin is cool and good or to even do it. ....
ah, I'm not really saying anything right now.
Even sometimes I get sick of hearing myself type this stuff out.
Where's my outlet? I need another outlet! Give me an outlet!
Fuck this! Fuck that! Blah Blah Blah...
I'm going back to listening to Tool now...

3.
I've been on the look out for these particular jeans for a few months now. I want them so bad but can't find them anywhere in my size. PLEASE HELP ME!
Here is the website of the exact Taverniti So JANIS Jeans that I want and I need them in a size 29. UPDATE, FOUND THE JEANS ON EBAY!

I think I finally found the belt that I have been looking for. It was worn by Kate Hudson in her new movie "you, me and dupree". It's a brown double ring Calvin Klein belt. I also want a red belt .... I saw it in a commercial for ... I don't know what the commercial was for actually. It shows this girl walking through the city [with red belt on] trying to get to her guy. It was for Levis.

4.
Speaking of commercials.... did you see the one for the NEW 4 door jeep?!? It's a teaser, they don't show you the full view only a little peak. I can't wait to test drive this baby, then eventually buy one.

5.
Does anyone else remember a band in the 90's called Supernova? They dressed in space suits if I remember correctly. I believe I have some photos of them somewhere.

How about that Rockstar Supernova huh! old news, I know. I've talked to a few people about it and our first thought after seeing the first episode was that either Dilana or Lukas will win. The ones that must go within the next 3 weeks are for sure: Dana, Jill, Zayra (now), and Ryan (so annoying). Josh is good in his own way... reminded me a bit of Jeff Buckley at first.. he does his voice vibrating thing a bit too much though. Phil is adorable and the camera loves him but he hasn't really brought the rock enough. All the girls [Dilana excluded] are just not right for the band at all. They just don't fit. I usually don't watch these kinds of shows but once I was flipping the channels and just happened to catch the first episode and after watching Dilana do "Lithium" by Nirvana, I was hooked. Fuck she can sing!

6.
Speaking of Bringing the Rock..... One of my favorite comedians has his own talk show and it sounds really interesting. I wish him all the luck.
His name is Greg Behrendt. He used to help with the writing in Sex in the City and has a few books out relating to relationships. I've seen him live at the Largo quite a few times and he's pretty rockin'! He actually brings his own band up called Snowflake and they rock..... He also sings childrens songs in a heavy metal way.
I know you've seen the commercials for Greg's new show, check it out.

Only three and a half hours to go before I can go home.
I either need to win the lotto or find a new job..... and soon.

omg! I almost lost this whole post! [save, save, save your work] it read that I had some errors on some html and when I hit the back button.... bam - page refresh! My heart sank and I got upset then calmly hit a few keys and whoa... cool, found it!

Music - Raconteurs Broken Boy Soldiers

The Raconteurs at The Wiltern July 20th 2006

I arrived at The Wiltern by 8:30pm, in time to find someone to buy my extra ticket. Actually there was a lot of people with extra tickets. However, I know one of the scalpers and I pleaded with him to buy my ticket for face value. I reminded him of all the times my boyfriend (at the time) and I bought tickets from him and then I made him feel that he was indeed a “scalper”. He gave in and gave me $45 bucks and even gave me a pit pass….. and his card. I still fucking hate scalpers. If it wasn’t for them then we wouldn’t have to go through the trouble of finding tickets in the first place.

I ran into my friend, Daniel and his friend so we all went in together. They had VIP passes and I had the pit so we didn’t see each other until after the show once we went inside. I don’t really drink anymore so I didn’t partake in that activity with them. Plus I didn’t want to miss the beautiful and amazing Jonneine Zapata.

Jonneine and Jeff Mendel took the stage and impressed everyone who was there to listen. Check her video out on youtube.com (post coming...)she did some songs I haven’t heard before then she ended in her “hit” called Lucky Girl. I swear I get chills every time I hear this song, and live is just fucking brilliant. She writes from the heart, her sultry voice reels you in and her sexy persona is like a train wreck, you can’t take your eyes off of her. She knows she’s hot and that’s ok. She didn’t do my other favorite song called “whore”, maybe she wanted to tone it down a bit (?) although her opening song was about cum.

The second band was a shock because I didn’t know that I would have to stand through one more before The Raconteurs came on. It was Kelly Stoltz from San Francisco. They were good but I just wasn’t into it. I wanted to see what I came to see and go to bed. He did make a Lenord Cohen reference about his speaking voice though.

Finally Jack and Brendan took the stage. I wish I wrote down the songs because I can’t remember shit. They did only a few of their songs including Steady as she goes for the first four or five songs then they were done and came back out and did three for the encore. I absolutely love this band live. Sure I was so ready to go after the second song but that was because I was so exhausted to begin with.

I love the way Jack pulls together his bluesy influence along with Brendans poppy way about him. It just all works, ya know. Together Brendan and Jack make the band sound truly unique. Sure there is a bit of Led Zeppelin in there but everyone likes the Zepp!

I really love the following songs: Level, Hands, Intimate Secretary and of course Blue Vains. They did them all. The songs that I barely recognized were b-sides that I didn’t end up listening to all that much. The songs I don’t care for are “yellow sun" and "call it a day”. The covers that they did were a big surprise. A lot of people didn’t know the “Bang, Bang (my baby shot me)” song. I had a feeling it was Cher and after looking it up on the net today, I was correct. Although Nancy Sinatra also covered it for the Kill Bill s/t. You may not know that I’m a closet Cher fan.
The other cover they did was a Bowie song called “It Ain’t Easy”. I knew the words but honestly forgot who did it originally. It was a fantastic show and I’m really glad that I didn’t leave after the second song. They all took a bow together and left the stage.

The traffic was so bad on the way home! The 5 pretty much always sucks but for some reason they pick midnight to close down 3 lanes of traffic to do roadwork on the freeways! There was what looked like a really bad accident on the 405 also, though it was on the opposite side of the freeway, traffic was bad on my side to. I got home at 1:15 or so. Needless to say I’m really super exhausted today. I’m so glad that I don’t have any plans for the weekend.

I'm getting this second wind right now, it feels freakin' weird.
I know i'm going to crash hard tonight!

Music - Tool 10,000 Days

July 19, 2006

Subject: Magic Mountain and ditching work to be there.

My co-worker and good friend Rhonda and I have been trying to plan this for a month now and finally we got to go.
We started out with a huge breakfast at IHop. The night before, we where all ready to try the funnel cakes that come with breakfast but when it came down to order we both chickened out and got regular breakfasts. I’m glad because I’m thinking that we both would have lost it beings Tatsu was our first ride of the day!
We get there around 10:30 and walked really fast to Tatsu where we only waited for about an hour and a half. It was totally worth the wait! Tatsu and X are by far the best rides at Magic Mountain and of course they had the longest lines. We got to go on everything that we wanted to go on. The only problems we had all day was waiting in line for two rides and just when we were near the front after waiting in line for about 45 minutes the rides broke down. That sucked! While most people left – we got closer to the front, we stuck it out for about fifteen minutes more and it was back up and running (Déjà vu) then we headed over to The Riddler’s Revenge and the same thing happened and we stuck it out but ended up coming back later in the night. We were going to go on a water ride but it was broken (they said) but we could wait in line if we wanted. We were just so over doing that for the time being.
We had a slice of Papa Johns pizza for only $7.00!! The giant refillable drinks were only $9.00!!!

Here is a list of the rides we did go on:

Scream
Goliath
Colossus
Batman
The riddler’s revenge
Gold rusher
Spin out
(me) dive devil
Superman
Tatsu
X
Viper
Revolution

I have to say that they really should change their name to “Makeout Mountain”. We saw a lot of this all day long..... teenagers making out while waiting on all the rides.
The place is so trashy, I mean literally there were trash bins all over the park but people can’t seem to use them. Soo gross. I only saw one person cleaning up with a broom and dust pan during the whole day and that was while waiting in line for X – this girl was cleaning up all the trash that was in the lines that people were just too damn lazy to walk not even 5 feet away to throw away. Needless to say The park is not going to win any cleanliness awards anytime soon. Unlike Disneyland, where you see people cleaning all day long – everywhere in the park.

I almost forgot about what other people were doing in the lines.... I didn't know that ROCK, PAPER, SCISSORS was so popular! A lot of hand type games were going on in the lines. I was both surprised and happy to hear the couple in front of us playing a game of "NAME A BAND AND THE NEXT PERSON NAMES A BAND STARTING WITH THE LAST LETTER IN THE PREVIOUS NAME". I heard the guy say "superchunk"! That just floored me, I was so ready to jump in but refrained. shit, I could play that game with a few of my friends all day/night long. Of course the girl had no idea who superchunck was. He was spouting off all these obscure bands and she was like "huh, who? is that a band or a person?".
If you’re single it’s kinda hard to not run into someone and start riding on rides with them. We kept running into this group of guys (4 or 5) and finally ended up hanging with them for a few rides. I had pink shoe laces on and one guy (Noah) said “hey, I like your shoe laces”. I just said thanks and kept walking. They sorta followed us towards a ride and I turned around and smiled and said “where is X” They laughed at the fact that we knew we were being followed. We introduced ourselves and it was Noah’s birthday. It was fun for us older girls to be hanging out with a bunch of cute “younger” men for awhile. We never did run into them again.
Rhonda and I were on a mission to go on as many roller coasters as we could while we were there. Despite the long lines and the expensive food, we had a great time. It was nothing like walking through Disneyland where you are always running into people. Magic Mountain is literally a huge mountain that you have to hike around to get to all the rides, it’s so vast and wide open…. and very VERY hot.
Sadly Noah and his friends had already done the dive devil and we didn’t find anyone else to ask to go on it with me so I went alone. Rhonda didn’t want to pay the extra $20 bucks and she was scared. I did it at night when the park was about to close. It was so worth it.
I found this video of a couple doing Dive Devil. I didn’t want to pay the extra money for a video of myself, so to get an idea of what I did, watch the video.
Another great thing happened as we were leaving the park. Rhonda went to Guest Services. We complained about the rides breaking down every time we were in line and had been waiting for over 45 minutes. They ended up giving us free passes for another day. Cool!
We made it home by midnight. I was so exhausted at work the next day plus I had tickets for The Raconteurs that night. more on that the next post.

Movie - Sex and Lucia

One more hour until break time.
Read, talk to co-workers, snack.

Three more hours until I go home.
Possibilities. Computer, a movie, gym

One more day until Friday
More possibilities. Gigs, movies, gym

I’m just wasting time at work trying to make the best of it [work].
My bills are all paid, my lists are all made. I know what I want.
I know what I need to do. I have everything organized…. Now I’m just bored!

It seems that every year it takes more and more to get me excited about seeing a band, any band as I get older.
I’ve been let down more times then not the past few years, it seems. I hate to admit it but I just don’t care that much anymore. I mean sure, there will be a band that pops up once in a great while that I think I just “HAVE” to see. I only wish I didn’t get so disappointed when I’m looking forward to seeing [IT] live.
I’ve turned to the gym for comfort. Sounds very strange, I know. I just love to put my headphones on and play whatever it is, really super loud and just hit the machines, jog or simply pump iron. I feel a hell of a lot better in every way. I even feel as though I’ve accomplished something when I’m done. It’s amazing. I see a lot of cute guys jogging around as I sit at the stationary bike and that’s what keeps me going sometimes. I’m not one to scam for guys at the gym but hey I wouldn’t be rude to a handsome [or what I think is handsome, anyway] bloke who comes over to me and says hello. I keep my headphones on as a sign [don’t bother me] and it works.

I need a change of scenery, a different outlook for a bit.
I did go to a museum recently but it wasn’t ….. um, how do I put this….. it wasn’t inspirational in a sense that I needed at the time. It was the Museum of Tolerance. If you have never been then I highly recommend it. I believe every person should experience this museum before they get into Junior High School. This was my third time visiting this L.A. museum and it has changed quite a lot in the past 15 years. It’s very educational and enlightening.
I enjoy going to the Huntington Gardens which is in Pasadena not Huntington Beach as you might expect. This place is simply beautiful and great for photographers.

I’ve recently seen a few movies :

The Divinci Code = excellent, this was so interesting to me. I didn’t read the book (gasp). I love a good treasure hunt theme.

Pirates = speaking of treasures…… I have to say this was just as good as the first one. Perhaps it was a bit slower moving as some reviewers are saying but none the less, it’s quite good. I can’t wait to see Keith Richards play Johnnys Dad in the next one.

Sex and Lucia (netflix) = um…. Wow! This was very interesting and Pez Vega can do no wrong in any movie. She is quite amazingly beautiful. This was full of sex as the title might lead you to believe but it was all done for a good story. Another adventure with lots of turns.

Click = I pretty much forgot about this already, it was good for the entertainment at the time, I guess.

Nacho Libre = I did Laugh out loud a few times. I do love Jack Black and all the characters were funny [looking].

Tokyo Drift = easily forgotten. I do have to say it is amazing how they can do that with a car though. I did like seeing Vin do a cameo with that awesome muscle car he was racing with though.

I’m looking forward to a lot of movies that are coming out sooner or later…… so many!
As for shows/ gigs, let’s see…
The Upper Crust, I’ve been told to not miss these guys. They come out in 17th Century (I think that’s right) costumes and play rock. Sounds interesting enough and I trust my friend who told me about them.
They will play This Friday at Spaceland then Saturday at Alex’s bar.
Comets on Fire are going to come back around to the Echo in August. Then we have the VERY hot Sunset Junction coming up also in August.
I’m sure there is more but like I said, I’m just bored of sifting through bands now days. I just have to be in the perfect mood to sit through 3 bands before reaching the so called [good] band that I came to see. I just had such a terrible time doing so at Alex’s bar last time when I went to see The Black Angels. I was just so completely over it and everyone was pissing me off around me by midnight and they went on after midnight!
I think the rock chick in me is becoming my inner rock chick.
I’m cool with it. I will always have it there in case I need it for any reason in the future. What?

Movie - The Devil Wears Prada.
This movie was the best movie i've seen all year. It was so good that I could go see it again.
It's not a chick flick and I really don't like that term at all. A movie is either good or bad.

Yesterday after I hit the gym I decided to go visit my dad because he lives near my gym. It was the best thing I could have done in a long time. We talked more together on this one visit then I'd talked to him all year. The thing that I noticed was that we got to really talk because his wife wasn't around. I like her and all but it just seems that I never get dad-time when she is around. She seems to start telling stories of her kids as soon as my dad brings up a story about me as a kid. It doesn't bother me all that much, just annoying when I know that my dad is here trying to show me that he loves me by talking about .......how brave I was while he pulled the log out of my foot after us kids played hide and seek.

Yeah, I was barefoot in the woods.

I was like 10 or something.
I don't really remember, I just remember the stories and everytime my dad tells it, the chunk of wood [log] becomes bigger.
He tells that story so well and when his wife hears it, she just starts in with her kids doing something when they were young.

It just bums me out because my dad and I were never really close and yet I feel this really strong connection to him and I try to figure it out by going over there and trying to have dad-time with him.

Well yesterday was a success! I was so happy and we sat there and talked about everything for hours.
As I left I asked were his wife was.... she was sick and sleeping in the bedroom. I didn't ever bring it up until after for fear of her coming out and ruining my dad-time. We don't talk the same when she is in the room.
She is nice and all and not at all the wicked step mother or anything like that, maybe she is jealous, I don't know and that's not for me to figure out.
I love him more then anything in the world and I think he knows it. Typing that right there made me cry and I don't know why!

I was only going to write about seeing the movie but got carried away.
Go see the devil wears prada, excellent - fantastic acting. especially Maryl Streep. wow!
I will go see it again. I think I'm gonna go see Nacho Libre after the gym today.

As Nike Says "just do it".
It's a good saying........what?
