The Girl that gets the B-Sides......"for the love of music"....

((JUST LISTEN))

3:58 PM

music: Kennedy
I have that song "turkey pot pie" by Kennedy running 'round in my head. when I first got the Cd, I used to wake up singing "wake up mf wake up!" in my head.

is it time to go home now! gheez, this day is dragging. Last night I was at spaceland seeing this band called "elefant", pretty 80's almost bowie sound but not quite. I really couldn't get past the fact that the singer was actually wearing white slip on vans! I had fun regardless. I drank mudslides all night, shouldn't have done that.

I feel like shopping for books. I've been reading that Kurt/Kurdt Cobain/Kobain book by Michael A. called "Heavier than Heaven". It's actually pretty good. It's pretty neat to be reading what I lived though, I remember being at the shows he speaks about.
Looking fwd to a night off (tonight) and also looking fwd to the Jon Brion show on Friday as well.
Is it time to go home yet........

2:57 PM

music: rolling stones! "sticky fingers"
I've been on a stones kick for quite sometime now, mainly because my cd player in my jeep doesn't work right now and that's the only tape besides the pixies that i have in there.
The Sons and Kennedy were brilliant last night at the Silverlake Lounge. I've seen Kennedy many times before, It was just great to see them there because it reminded me of the old punk rock clubs i use to hang out in about 10 years ago. As soon as the Sons hit the stage, I had this overwhelming feeling like they were/are destined to become major ROCKSTARS! This was only my second time seeing these guys; the first was when they opened up for someone at spaceland many many months ago. They were so good that i forgot whom i went to see. I was just lucky to have arrived early enough to catch the first band, which were the Sons. The singer has as much energy and electricity as Kurt Cobain did back in the early Nirvana days.
I can't even begin to describe the excitement that I have about seeing The Sons with JET together this Saturday at Spaceland! Two bands that will be BIG, BIG, ...BIG!
Tonight I'm going to see Elefant at Spaceland. The write up on them, which describes them of having a David Bowie sound, made me want to go.
Let me just stress (as if I hadn't enough already) that if you have plans for Saturday night.... just brake 'em , cancel 'em etc....and come to Spaceland to see JET & THE SONS. On second thought, you just go on ahead to the movies or out to dinner...I hate big crowds anyway ;)
When I got home and into bed last night I saw lightning then heard the thunder. KweeLL! I love this weather. Actually it was raining on the way into the club last night. I love the smell of wet asphalt and the crisp cool air after a hard rain. I do miss Portland!
anyway.... "I was just sitting on my bed at 3 'O clock in the morning looking out my bedroom window watching the rain and wishing I had somebody there with me to play a song for me"...It was the perfect setting. Now if I'd only kept up with those piano, guitar lessions....

3:29 PM

movie: mulholland dr. / i'm with lucy
i gotta say that i liked watching i'm with lucy much better than mulholland dr.
it was cute.why lucy didn't pick gael garcia bernal is beyond me. that guy is hott beyond words and the sex they had...c'mon!!
as for mulholland dr.....um, maybe it's because it was a david lynch movie that i didn't quite understand it??! sorry. and the lesbian scene, was that really necessary? i have nothing against it , it's just that i don't think it was necessary. no wonder why the movie didn't do so well in the theatres...and only men are buying the dvd and watching it (over and over) at home! LOL.
I saw the Kills last night at the troubadour. they were fantastic beyond words. the sexual tension between the two of them on stage was so great that i almost had to look away cuz it seems so personal. the girl can move!!!! and he plays the guitar as if it were her!! you will just have to catch a show to know what i mean. they tend to sell out.
I went to my friends birthday party earlier in the day on saturday, it was so cool to see my old high school friends again. there were 4 of us, and we used to hang out and go to disneyland and concerts and we still keep in touch. :) I think we all look like we did pretty much in high school, except for one who is having her second baby in about 4 months time. yay! (no not me!!) *phew*
i worked out at ballys this morning, and yesterday....gonna try and keep this up! I feel much better and a little stronger.

9:21 AM

movie: From Hell
I watched From Hell last night on dvd. I actually thought it was pretty good. I was too tired to finish watching the extra stuff, i fell asleep! It wasn't as gross as I expected and I actually cried at the end and wanted more! I wanted that happy ending to happen, i vote a part two!! ok, I'll just watch a happy movie next time and get over it.
I'm going to my friends house after work and we are going to watch the few episodes of sex in the city that i haven't seen yet then head out for dinner and perhaps a little shopping.

3:41 PM

music: the walkmen
I can't seem to keep my eyes open here at work! The loud voices of the Doctors around the office are keeping me awake.
I just bought my Sonic Youth ticket today, they will be playing the "don't knock the rock" fest next month. The Libertines are not sold out, as earlier stated. ;)
The Bring the Rock comedy show at the largo was great last night. Greg Behrendt had this band up there doing "where is thumpkin" metal style. It's a kids song! That was classic. In between rock bands he had his rock friends or comedian friends come up and tell rock stories. Andy Prieboy (sp?) was the best! It was Greg's 40th birthday and right after the show when most people left they brought out two giant birthday cakes. I did not partake! The salad and guinness filled me up pretty good.

4:09 PM

MUSIC: ROONEY, BRMC, THE LIBERTINES, FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE, SUZE'S CD MIX, THE WALKMEN
GRRRR! ROCK WEEKEND.

Saturday morning rolls around.... Of course with 4 girls we had a bit of a late start. On the way to Vegas we drove by - Mr. Shirtless, hairy-back man changing a tire on the side of the road, 4 girls in the car saying "eeeeeeUUUUUUUUU" then a bunch of laughter. We had to look at pictures on CD covers of hot rock boys to get rid of the picture in our head. (thanks Rooney & BRMC)

Stateline......I had to ride the coaster! I'm so glad that at least Sarah wanted to go on it as bad as I did!! Then we all rode the "lame" log ride. Still can't get over the price for that thing - c'mon $5bucks. They didn't even have the guns working to shoot at things like before. Michelle noticed the upside down cross while on the ride, it was right before the "big" drop. There was this guy sitting there and I was trying to be suave by saying "howz't going" he smiled and we dropped. It was the smallest drop ever! ... almost forgot the entertainment at this hotel at stateline...Dorks in silver spangled bolero jackets singing "bust a move" and "push it". Yet another classic moment.

Vegas..... It was about 108* frigging hot! We got our hotel room at the Tuscany after much "conversation" back and forth between me and the front desk woman....;) First she said they only had one room with a king bed available. I stared point blank at her and said "LOOK"! we have 4 girls here and we are not sharing a king bed! Anyway...she ended up giving us what we wanted.
We got ready had some dinner and drinks then headed to the club via cab, which was only about 2 miles away on the same street. But it cost 6 bucks in the cab!! Crazy ass clown of a cab driver. He's talking on the phone to his buddy the whole way about some guy falling or being pushed off the roof of a hotel that was being built. Hmmmm. This is entertainment for these people.

This club was small, we had to sit through two bands that sucked ass!! Excuse my French...though I don't really think the French would actually say those words. Anyway.... We go outside the club to talk until the band was done. We were all pretty drunk by now. This dame called Kat comes over to us and starts talking to us, very friendly! Turns out she books the bands, we had to mention that the first two bands sucked really bad. Lol she wasn't offended. We exchanged numbers and cards as she lives in Long Beach. On with BRMC....lots of fog and cool back lighting...made for good photos that I was about to take. :) They just rocked! They are so tight and made to play with each other as this amazing band. This was my second time seeing them but I paid more attention this time. Cari had made us all an advance copy of the new CD which they played a lot off of. I'm looking forward to seeing them September 6Th at the Henry Fonda Theatre.

After Show.....we started to walk outside with our drinks and the door guy said no, you gotta dump 'em or drink 'em inside. Were like, this is Vegas man, whats up with that?! So I led the girls to the back door and we walked right outside and there was the band. LOL. It was classic. I talked to Kat for a bit more while Cari, Michelle and Sarah went right for the singer. I ended up going over to them and talked to the singer about our cabby and he told me about a bad cab ride they once had.

Wait it gets better.... Kat told us about this club called the double down or was it the double door? Anyway....this is the club that all the bands want to go to when they play Vegas. So Kat drives ...I think it was 7 of us to this club, I remember sitting on Sarahs lap and leaning across the back seat. The band didn't go, I forgot all about them, didn't even say goodbye. Lol.
The club was surprisingly kinda punk rock., red walls with lots of drawings all over them and there was a bunch of bras hanging above the bartenders heads all around the bar. I don't think we even had a drink there. I did play a really quick game of Astroids though!! I think it lasted less than a minute. We spent all of ½ hour there and just walked back to our hotel room which was less than a mile (I think) 4 girls and this guy Nick, walking drunk back to the hotel, ya really don't realize how far you've walked. I don't know how we ended up with this Nick fellow... he was just there. I think Cari told him we would give him a ride back to his house (cari, such the motherly type) it was getting late or early how ever you want to look at 4:30 in the morning. We walk in the hotel and I said lets go to a Casino....Cari, Nick and Michelle were all with me on this. So we drive over to the Palms, where the band was staying??, I don't know who heard that one but I just waned to play some slots, I grabbed a beer from the fridge as we headed out to the car. This is probably what gave me the headach in the morning not the fact that I had 5 or 6 mudslides!! I won a dollar seventy five and spent about 20 minutes stumbling around to find the cash out place.... I think Cari was getting upset at me cuz she kept saying I'll give you the two bucks. Lol

Back to our hotel... it was to late to take Nick home so we let him stay in our room in a chair (his choice over the floor). We all go to breakfast in the morning on the way to drop Nick at home. Then we head to NYNY hotel to have a look around. We were over it and just drove home. On the way we didn't get to see any hairy-back men but we did see this fellow walking in flip flops, shorts, no shirt hot body and just a little bottle of water in his hand on the freeway...the traffic was super crawly. Sad for him, he probably pissed someone off and got kicked out of the car!
Home by 9pm.
Tonight is comedy night at the largo. Then I'm not going out till Friday! well, maybe david garza at largo on thursdy. hee hee hee. c'mon who's with me? you got my numba'!

3:37 PM

music: the sonics
Last Thursday I saw the Pirates of the Caribbean. Hands down a great movie, Johnny Depp is witty and funny and good looking throughout the whole movie! So if you want to go see it with me so i can see it again, I'm in!!
Friday night I went to the Largo to see Mr. Jon Brion once again. He was really into it, as if he was playing to a crowd that he was trying to please! Josh Klinghoffer (now part of becks band)got up and played during the second set with him as well as this amazing violin player with a spiked mohawk. I was talking with this really nice lady for awhile and didn't know it was Lucinda Williams until after she asked me my name and told me hers. She has that cool whisky voice going on there. She was with this guy I know, Marc Ford. Too bad they didn't get on stage and sing! That would have been a treat.
Saturday I went to Spaceland to see TSAR, I was bored as soon as I walked in the place, just a mood I guess. They were good but I was somewhat over it 1/2 way though there set. The singer was has too much ego for that small stage!! I didn't even stick around for the Cars - Candy -0 tribute band!! I went to BBC, Belmont Brewing Company on Sunday with Susan, it was nice to hang out and drink a beer, eat tacos and talk. This week I'm gonna try and stick to my new schedule for working out instead of seeing so many shows......unless my buddy can get me into see the Wallflowers at the Anaheim HOB's on Wednesday. This Friday is the Soledad Brothers at Spaceland and Saturday is BMRC in Vegas.

11:14 AM

music: ben kweller, radiohead, honeydogs, jason falkner
what a beautiful sunday morning. i'll probably head to long beach, grab a bite to eat and maybe hit fingerprints for a few cd's.
went to see minibar at o'briens last night, they were great as usual. but there is something to be left unsaid about the crowd. ok, here goes.......i understand the excitement of running into a friend at the club while the band is playing but c'mon....do you have to talk in front of others that are trying to enjoy the music and not your voices! then there are the "D,D,G's" as cari and i call them. (drunk dancing girls). i'm really not this mean, really! ha ha.
we ran into our buddy jason who just informed us that he does not work the door at spaceland anymore, too busy with his band "WAZ", we talked outside a bit then headed home.

5:38 PM

music: pernice brothers

i've seen them once or twice before but last night was extra wonderful for some reason.
jon brion was there enjoying a little pernice music.

ps - i forgot to mention that cari and i went to the Egyptian Theatre on Thursday to see the Monterey pop fest. and don't look back (dylan) on the big screen. both were awesome. i own the dylan flick but to see it on the big screen was extraordinary.
